Waiting on Wednesdays
Week 5 – April 1st, 2026
“Dear woman, why are you crying?” Jesus asked her. “Who are you looking for?”
John 20:15 (NLT)
This is Holy Week. Large sections of each of the four gospels recount Jesus’ teachings, parables, and actions during the week between Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. It’s a story we recount each year as we tell the story of the Christian calendar. It all builds to the crescendo of Resurrection Sunday morning. John 20:1 says that while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb of Jesus. It was still dark. Jesus, the Light of the World (John 8:12) had been snuffed out by the events of Good Friday, or so it seemed. Silent Saturday made it seem as though the grave would have the final word. It seemed as though even God could not conquer death for us, and our fate was sealed.
But while it was still dark, light came bursting forth. It was still dark. But light was on the way. It was still dark, but hope would have a say. It was still dark, but a new day was dawning. The Light of the World would brighten the day again. I love that Jesus greets Mary with the question, “Dear woman, why are you crying?” The Light meets us in our darkness. Easter meets us while it is still dark. And the voice of the savior calling our name (20:16) is what pierces the darkness and reveals to us that God has in fact won the victory, and has called our name, yours and mine, to new life and new light. So the question for us, as it was for Mary that morning, is who are you looking for? Look for Jesus this Easter, he’s calling you out of whatever darkness you face today, and reminds us once again of the eternal victory won at Calvary and the garden tomb.
· Pray this week for our Easter Sunday services. Pray for all that enter. That their hearts would be receptive to the good news of Jesus.
· Pray for the future of Grace Pointe and that God would lead us further into His mission for us.
· Think of a family member, friend, coworker, and pray for them. Ask God to give you wisdom in how to build a stronger relationship with them and how you might share your faith.
